About

Ornob Alam
PhD student
New York University

Hi! I am a graduate student working in Michael Purugganan’s lab at NYU. I study the evolutionary and demographic history of domesticated Asian rice. My scientific interests beyond my own field of research include animal domestication, human population genetics and evolution, and evolutionary conflicts between hosts and pathogens.

My biggest interest outside of scientific research is in communicating scientific research to a wider audience. I started this blog at the beginning of my PhD in Fall 2019 to document my experiences as I progress through the program, and practice my science communication and illustration skills. I hope you find some of the posts stimulating or useful!
